Pandora

Pan is all. Dora is gift.

It is said that she was given all the gifts of every Gods and Goddess making her the representation of EVERY ARCHETYPE.

Asteroid Pandora was discovered on the 10th September 1858 by astronomer George Mary Searle. Pandora is one of the larger asteroids, bright and part of the main asteroid belt which orbits between Mars and Jupiter. Her orbital period is around 4.58 years.

Pandora was named by the widow of the founder of the observatory. At the time, the widow was involved in a heated dispute with another astronomer there which eventually resulted in him being physically thrown out by hired men. Upon hearing that the asteroid was named Pandora, the astronomer in question commented on how apt it was. So there at the beginning, Pandora was connected to controversy.   (Leah Whitehorse)

Art and Astrology

“The Revelation of Pandora” (Mixed Media) 2023 @shewhois

Lisbeth Cheever-Gessanan, the creator of the art shared above notes that astrologically:

“Pandora, another enigmatic Asteroid  Goddess dwelling within the tapestry of your astrological chart, holds a captivating allure and profound significance.”

“Though often overshadowed, Pandora’s essence is as potent as it is misunderstood. She symbolizes curiosity, the exploration of hidden truths, and the unwavering beacon of hope amidst life’s trials. Her story resonates deeply with our own spiritual journey as women, offering insights into our innate resilience and capacity for transformation.”

“In astrology, Pandora’s placement in your chart unveils her influence on your path. For example, Pandora in the Seventh House may signify a profound exploration of partnerships, where her presence guides you to uncover hidden aspects within relationships and discover hope through connection and collaboration”.

“Pandora’s presence ignites a flame within, urging you to confront shadows, embrace hope, and emerge stronger from adversity. Like the luminous sparks and light in my artwork, she represents the guiding light amidst darkness, reminding us that hope is ever-present, even in the most challenging of times.”

“Yet, in today’s world, the significance of Pandora’s wisdom often goes unnoticed, overlooked by the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s time to reclaim her narrative and embrace her teachings as integral parts of our spiritual journey.”

Final Takeaways

The Prometheus and Pandora podcast is still giving me “downloads”. When we move way from the cartoon/comic storyline, it resonates with me that her name means all giving. She is not the origin of evil. She is the origin. She is the origin of hope and goodness.

People have for centuries have used this myth to attack women and blame them for all the ills of the world. We see the same thing in the Judeo-Christian tradition of condemning women for the sins of Eve. I believe that Pandora is not a women physically. Pandora is an archetype.

The Age of Aquarius is sparked by the archetypes of Prometheus (Uranus) and Pandora. The image of Aquarius is the bringer of knowledge. That is why Aquarius is represented pouring out a vessel. Many say this is the jar or vase of Pandora!
