For most of the us, the first calendar we learned was the twelve months of the year. Corresponding with those monthly divisions are twelve zodiac signs and twelve (to thirteen) moons, eight ruling planets and eight phases of the moon. In the middle of the wheel are the four elements, four cardinal directions, and the four seasons of the year.
